But for more than 55 million Americans, it’s a common occurrence. And because headaches are seen as such a common issue, people who experience them regularly, or find them debilitating, may struggle to get the help and support they need. Because headache pain can be excruciating, many (if not all) areas of the sufferers life may be negatively impacted. Family, friends, work and home life may all suffer.
Two Types of Headaches
There are two types of headaches: primary and secondary. Primary headaches are your stress headaches, cluster headaches and migraine headaches, while secondary headaches are caused by some sort of illness.
Primary and Secondary headaches can each be subdivided into sub-types. Their symptoms may vary and this is why you should always speak to your doctor if you are experiencing headaches in order to receive proper treatment.
Stress headaches, also known as tension headaches, are the most common kind of primary headache. They are responsible for approximately 90 percent of headaches. They are usually considered related to stress or related to musculo-skeletal problems in and around the neck. Tension headaches are mainly episodic and may last from several minutes up to several hours. In the most severe cases they may last for several days. These types of headaches are described as a constant pressure, usually on both sides of the head, or spreading around it, from time to time also extending to the neck.
A migraine is different and is thought to have a genetic origin. Migraines happen when the brain releases painful substances, which spread to the nerves and vessels of the head. Migraine usually occurs on a regular basis and persists for a few hours up to a few days, and is usually joined with symptoms such as nausea and an intolerance of what would usually be considered “normal” degrees of light and sound.
Cluster headaches often occur frequently and are short lasting. They are also very painful. They occur in clusters of six to twelve weeks every one or two years, usually at the same time of the year. The pain is excessively sharp and affects the entire head, typically beginning with the eye, and then spreading to the forehead, nose and mouth. It is much more rare than other sorts of headache and primarily affects the male population.
Headaches are usually treated with over-the-counter pain medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol. A doctor may also advise to avoid some of the more common causes of headaches such as noise and some foods or food additives.
Caffeine, Magnesium and Vitamin B2 are generally regarded as useful in treating migraines. Prescription medications are not cheap and may have side effects, especially for people who must take them regularly. This is why you might want to consider an alternative form of treatment for your headaches.
Hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) have been proven to be effective and can help you to diminish pain anywhere in your body, including your head, and can help you maintain a more relaxed state. Stress is often one of the first causes of headache, and specific hypnotic techniques have been developed to dissipate both stress and headaches within seconds.
People who have migraine or cluster headache are generally able to feel the first symptoms before the onset of the migraine, and may learn self-hypnosis techniques to eliminate them before they become debilitating. Hypnosis is a drug free modality that will help you find the relief you have been looking for. Headaches can be a serious affliction with numerous variations, concerning millions of people worldwide. Learn to overcome it and to relax with the relaxing and comforting method of self hypnosis.
Read this testimonial from one of my clients who went from 2 to 3 migraines per week, to a single migraine after one session.
I have had one migraine episode since my session with you. The night that happened, I was concerned that I wouldn't get back to sleep and I had to be up and out early. I went to my comfortable chair and started my visualization (I repeated my session from memory.) After a few minutes I went back to bed and fell asleep immediately.
Since then, I've had no problems at all. I just did a session and feel great. Very rested and very energetic. This is the longest I've gone without a headache in months! So far, I'm really happy about what's happening....or not happening!
